Even the best quality linens may pill after the first wash because cotton, as a natural fiber, has a tendency to shed. These steps for the first wash can help to mitigate pilling and set the color of your new linens.
1. Before the first use, wash linens twice to prevent pilling using the following directions.
2. In the first wash, use warm water with 235 mL of distilled white vinegar or 90 grams of baking soda and no laundry detergent.
3. In the second wash, use warm water with laundry detergent.
4. To dry, either line dry or machine dry on low-heat with other new linens.
For Future Maintenance:
Wash the linens with like colors.
Line dry to prolong the linen’s lifespan or machine dry on low-heat.
Recommendations:
Use a natural detergent.
Avoid fabric softeners, bleaching agents, and chlorine.
Never wash your towels with any fabrics that have zippers or buttons. These embellishments can catch and damage the loops of toweling.
